Advertising Is So Important

Look around you, advertisements are everywhere! From the many commercials on the television, to the billboards that are up in the sky, it is impossible to stay away from advertisements today. With a society of people who want the biggest and the best, shopping has become an addictive habit that many Americans have and have a hard time getting rid of. Especially with the massive use of advertisements today it is hard to not want the next best thing.

The Different Ways To Advertise:

  • Print Advertising
  • Outdoor Advertising
  • Broadcast Advertising
  • Covert Advertising
  • Surrogate Advertising
  • Public Service Advertising
  • Celebrity Advertising

With all these different types of ads taking place in our world, it is constantly in our faces which then gets implanted in our minds and then our actions lead us to finally buying the product. This is something we need to be careful with. We cannot let these ads control us we need to stay in control of them at all times.

What does it take to have quality advertisements?

Coming up with creative ideas for advertisements isn’t easier. That is why one of the best ways to advertise is with a team effort. By putting a bunch of creative minds together you will get all kinds of thoughtful ideas to better advertise a particular product. Also thinking outside of the box is another needed asset to better advertise a particular brand. So often people do the ‘norm’ but by taking a risk and thinking bigger you will be surprised to see the attention it will get for potential customers.  Lastly, it is important to know your audience. By understanding the targeted group of people who you are directing you brand too you will be able to better appeal to their desires. A way to get to know them better is by doing different forms of research such as focus groups and surveys.

Tweeting At An Event

Twitter is by far one of my favorite social media networks for multiple reasons. One of those reasons is because of the interaction and outreach that you are able to experience with others. When we simply live our lives day to day Twitter is one of those places we can go to find out about almost anything that is happening in the world. I recently tweeted during an event and saw how it positively effected the organization for many reasons.

How to tweet during an event?
Before you decide to tweet at any event you must always come prepared.
1.) You must have the twitter handle of the company or organization that is hosting the event.

It is important for the company you are tweeting about to know that you are tweeting about them. This will allow them to see how people feel about the event and what they can do to improve it and make it better for the next time. By using their twitter handle they are able to see tweets that are directly targeted to them. Twitter handles are always followed by the @.

2.) You must use hash tags.

Twitter has its own language and in the ‘twitter language’ hash tags are one of the most important components. Hash tags give the company the advantage to become a trending topic on twitter. During an event there may also be a particular hash tag that they want you to use so it’s important to come prepared with that information. Hash tags look like this # and are always used before the slogan, phrase or company that you are trying to trend.

3.) You must do some research.

During most popular events there is generally a significant purpose as to why it is taking place. Do some research on the company/organization to learn more about them and understand why they are having the event. Then do some research on the topic of the event so you can intelligently interact with others about the truth and knowledge on twitter.

I hope this helps. This is just the basics but there is so much more you can learn to be the best live tweeter you want to be. Want to learn more about how you can be the best at live tweeting? Click here!

Men – Your Style Communicates A Message

Before you know it college will be over and after college comes a professional job. When getting ready for class it’s easy to throw on some sweats and a t-shirt or some jeans and a sweatshirt. However, now that it is almost time to enter the ‘real world’ it is important to dress with class.

Men it is important to pay attention to how you look. With graduation steadily approaching if you want to land that job or have others respect you, realize that it all starts with what you choose to wear.

Men believe it or not you have it easy! Unlike females who have a ton of options when dressing for work , you typically just have your ‘basics’.  This makes it a lot easier for you to pick out something to wear. Depending on the job you get. this will determine the type of clothes you wear to the office. You don’t want to over dress or under dress you want to be right on for the particular field you are in.

Business casual is being seen in the majority of jobs today so this is what I will be giving some advice on. Good news guys according to Paul Vallejo, ” Denim is being seen in more offices than it was even 5 years ago.” With that news you can dress up a nice pair of jeans and make it work appropriate in a variety of ways.

How to dress up a pair of jeans for work?

  • Shoes: You cannot wear the traditional sneakers to the office when rocking jeans that is not business professional at all. Some other alternatives are, loafers, speerys and toms. These shoes don’t over do it or under do it.
  • Tops: Never wear a T-Shirt that is ‘casual’ not ‘business casual’. Instead wear a button up with a blazer or by itself, a polo, or a nice sweater.

Sticking to things like this will be able to tie it all in and make you business professional for any job.

Here is a YouTube video with great suggestions for how young men should dress at work.

Women – Your Style Communicates A Message

In a world where first impressions count for everything and ‘people are sizing you up and sizing you down,’ appearance and clothing are ‘so important’, said Leah Bourne, style writer for Forbes.

In the professional world appearance is everything. With that being said it is so important to stay well groomed. Aside from taking daily showers and brushing your teeth every morning, when you enter work each day you want the clothes you have on to make a statement about you.

What should women wear to the office?

Women have so many options when it comes to getting dressed for work. From skirts to blazers, to dresses and cardigans they all work in the business world.  However, it is very important for one to know the environment they work in before they get dressed for work each day. This is because each company has its own rules and dress codes.

Casual dress

In many companies today they are gearing away from the traditional way of dressing and leaning more towards dressing casual. When it comes to dressing in this manner it is important to remember, “Business casual should not be equated to weekend casual. There is a big difference between these two. The problem is recognizing the difference and knowing when casual is too casual,” said Lola, a style writer for Divine Caroline.

  • Rules for shirts:
  1. Never wear a low cut shirt to the job.  Not only is this inappropriate but it is also a huge distraction for those in the office.
  2. Two is better than one. Layer blouses with blazers and cardigans, not only is this more professional but it is also very stylish.
  • Rules for pants
  1. Never too tight.
  2. Never too low.
  3. Never destroyed jeans.
  • Rules for skirts
  1. Always at least mid thigh length.
  2. Never too short.
  • Rules for dresses
  1. Never too tight.
  2. At least mid thigh length.
  3. Layer dresses with blazers.
  • Rules for shoes
  1. Closed toe is best.
  2. Never wear a heel that you can’t walk in.
  3. Comfy is best, remember you are at work.

Hope this helps. As many of us near graduation and prepare to present ourselves with class to former employers we must dress our best. Believe it or not the clothes you decide to wear each day is a form of communication that you share with everyone around you.

Never Judge A Book by Its Cover – Breaking PR Stereotypes

Today we live in a world where people associate different things with a particular title. In the professional world especially people like doctors, lawyers and reporters are all stereotyped by society.

One particular group of professionals that have been scrutinized by the media is public relations pros. A job in public relations is one of the most important jobs in order to help companies run efficiently, yet people have decided to give them all types of negative nicknames.

A stereotype that has struck my attention is, women in PR are of the majority and they are generally a bunch of mean girls just waiting for the moment when they need to bring their claws out. Though from what I realize women do rule the PR world it’s crazy to see that people think that are always on the defensive mood. Iris Signature a PR salesman said:

“It’s true! Possibly it’s because there are so many women in the field and an office can get to feel like a high school clique, but it’s also because of the nature of the industry (getting stories published) and the fact that there’s such tight competition for clients. That, combined with stress of deadlines and working with creative, emotional types makes the claws emerge.”

Another stereotype that has me in shock is that, PR pros never work at the fast pace that other’s need them to work at. This was hard for me to hear because I realize that PR professionals are always expected to meet deadlines such as, sending out press releases and publishing company newspapers at a timely manner, yet many people consent with this statement.

With those findings I thought it was important to reminder people that we should never just assume that a person is a certain way just because of the industry that they work in. Every individual is unique in their own way; their profession does not define them. And sure certain careers may force people to be a particular way, but that is only for them to do their job to their best ability and to stand their ground at all times.

Living in a world with so many judgmental minds it’s only natural for people to assume things. But one should always remember to never judge a person, by what they see or hear, get to know them for you then make an assumption.

Think Before You Tweet, Post, Blog

In a generation where social media is extremely popular it is easy for many to state their own personal opinions without thinking about how it will affect others first. What you put out on social media sites, stays on social media sites. What you post on social media sites, is a direct representation of yourself, it reflects your character and allows others to know the type of person that you are. Be careful what you say because once its out there, it is out there for good.

Like many young adults in this day and age I am a huge fan all the different ways to communicate through social media such as, Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, Pinterest and even text messaging. It’s important for people to  understand that there is a proper way to use social media and also an improper way. Whatever we post on social media sites is out there for good, even if you delete it, there is still a way for it to be retrieved. We need to understand that not everyone is our friends, not everyone needs to know all of our business and not everyone can be trusted.

Today, before most employers decide to hire a person one of the first things they do is visit their Facebook or Twitter to get some additional background information on them. What does your Facebook say about you? If you are posting pictures of you in scandalous clothing and playing beer pong with friends that’s already going to give the employer an idea of the type of person that you are. Be sure to be aware of everything that you post it is a direct reflection of your overall character. If you are constantly posting sad and depressing things then that will give people the impression that you are a sad and depressed individual. On the flip side if you post things that help others and is always positive then that will be the character that people will expect for you to have.

One of my biggest pet peeves is to see people post negative things about a particular person or group on social media sites. Don’t you realize that by doing this you are way worse than that person? Not only is it childish to post rude remarks about others but it is also very disrespectful. When you spread rumors about other people that affects the way others view them as well, which can ruin some of the relationships they have. It is important to approach people face to face with any issues that you may be experiencing with them. This will solve so many controversies.

Lastly, I want to mention that even though social media can be a fun way to communicate with others, do not forget the traditional ways of communicating. It’s always great to sit down and have a face to face conversation with someone. It is also exciting to get a call and be able to hear someone’s voice rather than engage in a super-long-text conversation. So remember that from time to time make an effort to go back to these old methods.

Overall with everything that you do, be careful with what you tweet, post, blog and say to others.

“It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Great Communication Will Get You Far

Texting has become one of the most popular forms of communication Build Great Communication Skills

Look around, communication is everywhere. As the two friends laugh obnoxiously as they recall the events from last night, slapping each others shoulders and nearly being in tears. As the two lovers sit in the night holding hands and gazing into each others eyes. As the three siblings converse with the expression of joy on their faces. Let’s face it you cannot hide from communication.

Take a moment to think about how you communicate with others. Do you look people in the eyes when you engage in conversation or do you shyly look in other directions? Do you cross your arms as if you are uninterested or do you use your hands to emphasis what you are trying to say?

Having good communication skills is so important in the society we live in today. It can truly make or break you. It can guarantee you a career and make it as though you have no chance at all of getting it. That is why one must learn good communication skills in order to excel in the world.

First key element to good communication is, verbal communication. It is all about what you say and how you say it. Pay close attention to the words that come out of your mouth. Be sure to think before you speak it can really affect the way others view you. Speak with clarity allow for others to understand you, do not mumble or speak too softly.

Second key element is your physical body language. Stand tall and alert. Do not cross your arms it shows uninterest in conversation. Smile, a smile can say a thousand words. Respect the other person you are talking to, look them in the eyes stand in a manner that says ‘I am listening.’

Working on those things mentioned above will be a sure way to make you someone that people will enjoy communicating with.

Below are some helpful quotes of encouragement to help you get through any type of communication situation:

‘I may not be able to control what happens, but I can control what happens next.’

‘You want to be the one to make the lasting impression.’

‘Keep your eyes open you never know what you’re gonna see.’

‘The person that helps them solve the mental conflict is the one that gets the job.’

‘Don’t work harder on your education than you do you, or else you’ll be an educated fool.’

‘Never simply answer the question. Question the question then give an answer.’

‘The worst thing you can do is talk about yourself, their will be plenty of people who will do that for you.’

‘You gotta get the philosophy right about you.’

‘Goals are thoughts until you put a time on them.’

‘Trust is given as you earn it.’

‘Leaders are always under assessment’

I hope all this helps, be the best you can be for you! With great communication skills you will strive in the business world, in personal relations and just in everyday life.

Help Someone

Take a moment to think about all the people you have come across in life that have helped you in some way. Think about where you would be without them and how much you appreciate them for all they have done. For if it wasn’t for them you wouldn’t have that job, that knowledge for that task or just confidence to feel like you Can Do It! Those special people who came into your life you will remember forever and it’s all because of the simply fact that they helped you.

As I sit, just reflecting on the kind people I have encountered in my life, I can’t help but feel the need to give back to others as well. You never know how much you can directly change someones’ life by just reaching out and giving them a helping hand. Giving back to others after someone has given to you is such a beautiful thing. It is only right to do this. So take the time to just help someone.

It takes leadership to help a person. As college students we are all building ourselves up to be leaders out there in the world someday. We are learning and gaining the proper skills to get us ready to take over. As we go throughout this process we are meeting leaders that are currently out there in the world. They are teaching us how to do things in order to one day pass the torch over to us.

We do not have to be where we want ourselves to be in life, in order to help others. Just by taking the time to want to further our education we are already at a position where we can help someone. There is always someone below us that is looking for that guidance, advice and push into the right direction. By being that mentor to them and showing them how you got to where you are, you are building them up with joy to feel that they can do the same.

People need people to thrive. You ever hear the popular saying, ‘It’s all about connections.’ This is so true. The people you decide to surround yourself with will make a direct impact on you in either a positive or negative way. So choose to be around the right people. The people who want to better themselves and are working hard to get there and the people that made it to the top and can help you get there too. But don’t just soak it all in for your own enjoyment pass that information on to someone else so they can better themselves too.

Life is too short to sit back and later regret. That boy without a father needs you to step in and be that positive influence. That girl with little confidence needs you to step in and show her that she is totally capable. Be a leader and help those that need help. Step out on a limb and take a chance. Pay it forward.

If the managers are not properly doing their job then the employees will not properly do their job. Having managers that know how to respect individuals and  also have a passion for the organization that they work for, will lead to them training employees with charisma and in a way that will prepare them for the job at hand. Hello world!

My name is Amber Victoria McGinnis. I am a 4th year at The Ohio State University majoring in communications with an minor in media productions.

One day I want to be on TV. I want to be that reporter you see when you turn on the TV in the morning giving you all the important information you need to know about the world you live in. I want to travel, meet new people and make a difference. There is only so much in this city I grew up in of Columbus, Ohio and I cannot wait to get the opportunity to step outside of it and make a difference.

I am a singer. Though I do not have a record deal or anything, my shower head gets to see some of my best performances as well as my best friends. There is just something about the way a voice is an instrument that we are born with. We can produce any sound with a simple breath and some creativity.

I am a dancer I do spiriutal dancing for my church . There is just something about the way a body moves to music, creating a story with each graceful step. One can truly express so many emotions through dance and just draw people in with the beauty of it.

I am a child of God, living my life truly to serve and obey him. For with everything I do, I do it to glorify the man upstairs. Patience and obedience will get me to where I truly belong in this life.
